Investment casting is an industrial process based on lost-wax casting, one of the first known methods of metal-forming. Investment casting is regarded as having a high level of accuracy, reproducibility, adaptability, and integrity for producing components out of a variety of metals and high-performance alloys. Both small castings weighing a few ounces and big castings weighing several hundred pounds can be produced using this method. It could be more expensive than die casting or sand casting, but as production volumes increase, per-unit costs fall.
