Caprolactam is preferred to ω-aminocaproic acid for the manufacture of nylon 6, as it is easier to make and to purify. ε-caprolactam is the most common caprolactam isomer. Nylon 6 is known to be a tough and abrasion-resistant material, which possesses high tensile strength. This material is commonly available in the form of sheets. Some of the common applications of nylon 6 include industrial yarns, resins, films, textiles, and carpets, among others.  Some of the major producers of nylon 6 are BASF SE (Ultramid), RTP Company (ESD, RTP), Domo (DOMAMID), SABIC (THERMOCOMP, THERMOTUF, LUBRICOMP), and PolyOne (Nymax / Bergamid). Nylon 6 is witnessing a growing demand from the Asia-Pacific countries, owing to the increasing demand for nylon filament. Additionally, in the recent past, a significant amount of capacity was added for nylon 6 in this region. This is expected to continue in the future.
