Cotton is a soft and staple white fibrous substance that surrounds the seeds of the cotton plant and is made into textile fiber and thread for sewing. About one-third of the cotton produced is crushed for oil used in food products (livestock and poultry feed). For every 100 pounds of fiber produced, the cotton plant also produces about 162 pounds of cotton seed.
