Y-type zeolites are characterized by large spherical internal cavities and linked tetrahedrally through pore openings of about 0.8 nm and defined by rings of twelve oxygen atoms. Zeolites are synthetically produced crystalline aluminosilicates, which are activated to act as an adsorbent. The basic ingredients are silica and alumina. Zeolites are highly porous and adsorbent and have a high affinity for water and some other molecules.
