Lithopone, also known as white pigment 5, is a white crystalline powder produced by grinding, drying, and powdering the calcined precipitate of barium sulphate and zinc sulfide resulting from the addition of a solution of barium sulfide to an equivalent solution of zinc sulphate. It is majorly used as a white pigment in paint and plastic formulations. Some of the commercial grades of lithopone are based on the composition of zinc sulfide. It includes 28% lithopone, 30% lithopone, and 60% lithopone. In addition, lithopone is available under model numbers such as B301 and B311.
