It can handle rough terrain better and is frequently used in hilly areas with steep slopes, hard rocks, loose dirt, and muddy or grassy routes. The mountain bikes are built to perform better and last longer on difficult terrain. They typically have a front or full suspension, stronger wheels, big knobby tires, stronger brakes, and lower gear ratios for climbing steep grades. Mountain trails, fire roads, single tracks, and other unpaved surfaces are where mountain bikes or mountain bicycles are commonly ridden.
