Biogas is produced as a result of the biological breakdown or decomposition of organic matter in the absence of oxygen. This process is called 'anaerobic digestion' and uses biodegradable materials, such as municipal waste, green waste, crops, plant materials, sludge from sewage, manure, and biomass, to produce biogas. Biogas is an alternative source of renewable energy.
