Interception of data and voice communications is a lawful obligation of
telecommunications service providers. The demand for lawful interception solutions is
generated by a number of stakeholders such as government regulators, law
enforcement agencies (LEAs), and communication service providers to prevent crime,
including fraud and terrorism. LEAs perform electronic surveillance as authorized by
judicial or administrative orders while minimizing the violation of civil liberties and
privacy to collateral users. Most of the countries have adopted lawful interception
regulations. These regulations may vary from country to country. Lawful interception is
the official legal access to private communications such as e-mail messages and
telephone calls. Lawful interception allows companies to make their communications
available to law enforcement officials when requested.
