The Enhancing Vehicle-to-Vehicle Crash Compatibility Agreement (EVC) was established in 2003 as a voluntary measure to reduce occupant fatalities of passenger cars in crashes with light trucks and vans, including pickup trucks, SUVs, minivans, and full-size vans, generically abbreviated as LTVs.these results provide some evidence that the EVC has reduced fatalities but are not sufficiently strong to permit an unequivocal conclusion that it has been effective in reducing fatality risk to car occupants.

We conducted a vehicle analysis to assess the feasibility of thermoelectric technology for waste heat recovery and conversion to useful electrical power and found that eliminating the 500 W of electrical power generated by the alternator corresponded to about a 7increase in fuel economy (FE) for a small car and about 6for a full size truck.We obtained critical vehicle level information for these driving cycles that enabled a highlevel design and performance analysis of radiator and exhaust gas thermoelectric subsystems for several potential vehicle platforms, and we identified the location and geometric envelopes of the radiator and exhaust gas thermoelectric subsystems.

As the model documentation states, While OMEGA incorporates functions which generally minimize the cost of meeting a specified carbon dioxide (CO2) target, it is not an economic simulation model which adjusts vehicle sales in response to the cost of the technology added to each vehicle. Because the OMEGA model does not presently estimate such impacts, the EPA is investigating the feasibility of developing an adjunct to the OMEGA model to make such estimates. This project is an effort to develop and test a candidate model. The project statement of work spells out the key functional requirements for the new model.
