Vaccines are biological preparations that stimulate a person’s immune system to produce immunity to a particular disease, protecting the person from that disease. Vaccines are usually administered through injections, orally, or intranasally. They can be used for both adults and children. Pediatric vaccines are used to immunize children against infectious diseases such as diphtheria, influenza, hepatitis, pneumococcal diseases, and meningococcal diseases.

Cystic fibrosis, also known as mucoviscidosis, is a rare genetic disease more prevalent among Caucasians. It is one of the most common types of genetic diseases observed in Caucasian children. Though no precise data is available in Europe, cystic fibrosis is estimated to affect 1 in 8,000-10,000 individuals. Cystic fibrosis is a chronic disease and usually progressive in nature. Onset of the disease occurs in early childhood or, rarely, at birth. Adolescent diabetes, chronic bronchitis, pancreatitis, male sterility, high salt content in sweat, difficulties in breathing and digestion, secretion of abnormal viscous mucus, growth anomalies, and, very rarely, intestinal obstruction or liver cirrhosis are the major symptoms of the disease. The degree of bronchopulmonary involvement determines the morbidity and mortality of the patient.

Infertility, a widespread problem, is the inability to conceive after having regular unprotected sex. In one-third of the cases, infertility is due to either female infertility factors or male infertility factors. In rest of the cases, the cause is either unknown or a combination of both male and female factors. In males, infertility is due to factors such as low sperm production, abnormal sperm function, or blockages that prevent the delivery of sperm. The cause of infertility can be difficult to diagnose, but many treatments are available. The treatment options depend on the underlying problems.

Scars are permanent patches of fibrous tissue that result from the healing process of a wound and can be treated using invasive and non-invasive techniques, including surgery and OTC treatment products. These products and procedures can be used to treat all types of scars, such as keloid scars, contracture scars, hypertrophic scars, and atrophic scars. Scars caused by surgery can be removed by surgical revisions, although most people are reluctant to go for another invasive procedure after a surgery. Apart from the easily available OTC scar treatment products, patients can also go for lesser known alternatives such as cryotherapy, clinical peel, and compression.

Generic drugs are identical, or almost identical, to their branded originals. They may contain very small variations permitted by the FDA. Generic drugs need to be identical or within the satisfactory bioequivalence range of their branded counterparts to be approved by the FDA. They have the same active ingredient(s), dosage form, intended use, potency, quality, and route of administration as the branded drugs. They are available in the market once the patent of the corresponding branded drugs expires, as manufacturers of generics are unable to meet the expenses of developing and marketing a new drug. Generic drugs are generally 50-70 percent less expensive than their branded versions and meet the same standards of effectiveness, quality, and safety. As patents on the branded drugs approach expiration, drug manufacturers can apply to the FDA for approval to develop and sell generic versions of their branded drugs.
